The Information and Referral Coordinator answers phone calls, written and walk-in requests for information on mental health topics from the general public. He refers people who request clinical services to UCMHD (Ulster County Mental Health Department) or to private practitioners in Ulster County and if request to clinicians in other parts of the state and country. He maintains a library and collection of books, audio visual materials and brochures that are available to the public free of charge. He maintains the Private Practitioner's Directory and periodically updates that directory. This information, along with treatment centers and advocacy organizations, is in the MHA data base. This insures a quicker response to requests for information. In addition, the coordinator researches treatment models, using the Internet and more traditional research methods, as requested by the staff at UCMHD, or the general public.
