RESPITE, ADVOCACY AND HEALTH (RAH) The RAH program began through the collaborative efforts of the YMCA, YWCA, Gateway Industries, Ulster Association of Retarded Citizens, and the Mental Health Association in 1974. It provides supports and services through program activities that enhance the personal, educational, recreational and socialization skills of program participants. A variety of activities are offered five to seven evenings per week and are planned by the consumers through its formal planning council. In 2001, over 130 people at each event attended three dinner dances.
· Monday Bowling remains one of the most popular activities. In its 24th year, this evening activity is training ground for the athletes participating in Special Olympics. An average of 25 persons attended weekly.
· The Ellenville Program is also held Tuesday afternoons at Pilot Industries, Ellenville. The parents requested this program. Fourteen consumers participate on a weekly basis.
· Wednesday Night Dinner continues to be an evening of socialization with friends. Aside from the dinner, there are ongoing sessions of music, theater arts, poetry, crafts, games, community presentations and holiday celebrations. An average of 80 diners attend weekly.
· Thursday is the New Paltz program, consisting of weekly van trips. An average of twelve people attended weekly. The Outreach Music Program at Palmer Center discontinued this year as there was conflict of time with that UGARC residence.
· Saturday, The Clubhouse met monthly throughout the year. Over 30 persons attended each session. Movies, games and lunch were all part the twelve sessions held at the Clifford Beers Center.
· Special Events and Parties: Twelve special events and parties were part of this busy year. Van trips rounded out the myriad of activities planned by the consumers, for the consumers. This RAH program component provided over 1200 face to face contact to persons in 2001.
