Common Sense Skills

To increase positive interactions (while descreasing negative) between parents and children. Provide parents the basic skills to increase confidence and parenting abilities and promote more positive behavior from children.

Coed - Parents. Up to 12 – no less than 4 participants.

Discovering Together Parent Group

A parenting support group that occurs at the same time as the children’s group.  It is for caregivers to help their children make better choices for themselves.  Help them obtain a greater understanding of their children. 

Open to parents who currently have children in the Kids Together II program.

Tuesdays every week for 12 weeks fall and spring sessions. 6:30 PM – 8:30 AM

Location: YMCA - 507 Broadway, Kingston

Parent group free, childcare free

STRIDES Parent Group

Parent therapy group – working toward building better parent/child relationships.   Empowering parents to take charge in a healthy way.  Reduce parent “reactivity” level to parenting challenges.  Foster empathy and attunement in parents toward children. 

Must be a client of UCMHD or have a child who is a UCMHD client.  Parenting challenges, a willingness to be honest and make changes.

Wednesdays  10:30 AM - 11:45 AM. Target Start Dates are:   Sept.-Dec.; Dec. -  Feb.; March -June  3-10 week sessions. Up to 14 participants.

Ulster County Mental Health Department - 239 Golden Hill Lane, Kingston

Contact: Therapist completes referral form, forwards to Tamara Telberg, Eileen Murphy 340-4000.  Group leader schedule a 1/2 hr screening with client.  Decision made. 

Prior authorization required.  Regular billing, private insurance.

Kidology Together: Parent Group for Kids Together I and II

Parenting support group that occurs at the same time as the kids groups.  For caregivers to help their kids make better choices for themselves, have a greater understanding of their kids.

Parents, grandparents, caregivers, foster & respite parents.  Parents must have custody of child and if community person (someone who does not have a child in the program) potential waitlist. Up to 80 participants.

Thursdays 1st & 3rd – 6:30  AM – 8:30  AM  Target Start Dates are:   Sept.- May (15 groups)

Location: YMCA – 507 Broadway, Kingston

Contact: Erika Scannell or Rosa Lattanzio at 340-4000 and complete screening form prior to entering group.  Ulster County Mental Health Department. Free childcare provided.
