FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES (FSS)
Our Family Support Services program is dedicated to providing services, assistance and guidance to families with children who experience ongoing emotional difficulties and disturbances. In our efforts to address a range of needs identified by family members, we have created a multifaceted program. The range of services and supports are shown in the components of the program listed below and are described in the following narrative.
SUPPORT/EDUCATIONAL SERVICES:
- Family Peer Advocate
- Empowering Parents Through Support
- Parent R & R: Respite Services
- Parenting the Positive Discipline Way
- Ongoing Committee Participation
Family Peer Advocates
This parent-driven, family focused program is staffed by parents who have had their own personal experiences navigating their way through the world of children’s services. The advocate’s role is to provide parents with support and information as they help parents link to services within the community and their own natural supports, as well as strengthen parents’ advocacy skills for their child and family.
EMPOWERING PARENTS THROUGH SUPPORT
This support group is for parents and caregivers who are looking for help caring for a child who is having social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Empowering Parents Through Support offers the opportunity for growth as parents and caregivers share concerns, insights, and information. This group meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.
PARENTING THE POSITIVE DISCIPLINE WAY
Positive Discipline is a seven-week course based on Adlerian theory. The goal is to help parents learn strategies to improve communication with their young children, gain cooperation and to help their children achieve a sense of self-awareness, self-discipline, responsibility and improve problem solving skills in hope of strengthening the family unit.
