Family Support Services
FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES
Our Family Support Services program is dedicated to providing services, assistance and guidance to families with children who experience ongoing emotional difficulties and disturbances. In our efforts to address a range of needs identified by family members, we have created a multifaceted program. The range of services and supports are shown in the components of the program listed below and are described in the following narrative.
FAMILY PEER SUPPORT SERVICES
Family Peer Advocates (FPA) provide formal and informal activities and supports to caregivers with a youth who is experiencing social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges in their home, school, placement, and/or community. The FPA works with caregivers using a person centered, trauma informed, and strength based approach. FPA’s assist in linking youth to services as well as advocating and/or guiding the caregiver through navigation of school, medical, mental health, or any children’s system of services. The end goal of this service is to strengthen the caregiver’s advocacy skills, use of natural supports, and develop confidence navigating challenging situations their youth may face.
Referrals are accepted both directly and through Ulster County SPOA.

This parenting class is designed to develop mutually respectful relationships and teach parents how to employ kindness and firmness at the same time, using a style that is neither punitive nor permissive. The goal is to help parents learn strategies to improve communication with their young children, gain cooperation and to help their children achieve a sense of self-awareness, self-discipline, responsibility and improve problem solving skills in hope of strengthening the family unit.
